The On The Road program is run by Science World’s fantastic touring science team. It uses fun, inquiry-based demonstrations to engage the people of British Columbia in science, to spark curiosity and to stimulate learning.
At your school
Outside the Lower Mainland
Science World On The Road visits more than 30,000 students each year, at schools outside the Lower Mainland, who might not otherwise have a chance to visit Science World at TELUS World of Science. Our high energy gymnasium presentations are curriculum linked and provide an unforgettable science experience for students.
In the 2019–20 school year, we will be visiting communities in the North Okanagan, Caribou and Central Interior, Shuswap, Northern Rockies, the Columbia Valley, Kootenays, and on Vancouver Island.
Within the Lower Mainland
While On The Road is designed to provide a Science World experience to students in schools outside of Metro Vancouver, we can also offer the same shows at schools within the Lower Mainland on a fee-for-service basis, depending on schedule availability. About the program
The program operated from 2005 to 2012 with support from the provincial government and donors, but had to be discontinued due to lack of financial support. In its first seven years under provincial government funding, On The Road reached more than 1.3 million people across British Columbia, including more than one million students in grades K–12. The On the Road team made more than 1,000 visits to communities, both large and small, throughout BC.
Starting in September 2015, Science World re-launched On The Road, with a five-year mandate to again reach every school in BC outside the Lower Mainland whose students might not otherwise have a chance to visit Science World in Vancouver. The program is funded internally with additional support from presenting sponsors. The goals are to pique science curiosity, boost science literacy and inspire future science and technology leaders.
